Project : Architecture’s proposal, 인형: In the Shape of a Human, retools the Dongdaemun Toy Market for next-generation high-tech manufacturing. Given its proximity to Seoul’s historical core, this strategic intervention transforms the dilapidated market into a hub for customized production.
Our proposal threads an urban-scale conveyor belt through the dense fabric, allowing independent factories, housing, and shops to collaborate as a single “mega-factory.” This system removes vehicular traffic, enabling the restoration of a historic stream and improving the pedestrian environment. Using “webtoons,” we present a fact-based narrative tracing the production of Inhyoung—customized AI dolls that monitor children’s safety. While embracing the synergy between local production and consumers, the proposal also questions if we can truly remain free from corporate control in a hyper-connected age.
