To launch the Spring 2017 sequence of the Seoul Biennale International Studios, professors and students from six international and local universities as well as the director and curators of the Biennale will gather for an afternoon of energized conversation on the future of the Changshindong region and its vibrant surrounding neighborhoods. Located just outside the Dongdaemun east gate and the historical city wall, the area is home to a myriad of garment micro-factories and varied housing and retail. The area is a social and spatial web of social, economic, and logistical relationships.
The symposium will feature presentations from the Seoul Biennale’s curators of the Production City exhibit, as well as the studio leaders from the international and local institutions that are conducting research in the area. Representative universities include: Hong Kong University, Washington University in St. Louis, National University of Singapore, University of Technology Sydney, University of Seoul, Hongik University, and Seoul National University.
